Abridge Golf Club has been using our TopChanger since 2023 to maintain its 240-acre golf course in beautiful Essex. Abridge has been home to various major tournaments. The course invested in the TopChanger to improve its greens and tees maintenance.
Geoff Smith is the Course Manager at Abridge Golf Club and leads a team of ten men responsible for maintaining the golf course.
The challenges
When he was first introduced to the TopChanger through a relationship three years ago, he was immediately convinced of its benefits. Geoff: “The clay and poor drainage of the golf greens and tees was a regular challenge, but thanks to the TopChanger, the greens and tees were playable again quicker after heavy rain!”
Great investment
He explains: “The TopChanger is a great long-term investment. The machine injects sand directly into the soil, which results in deeper root growth and more stable turf. This makes the surface stronger and more resistant to prolonged rainfall.”
Excellent service
The relationship with VGR Equipment began with a demonstration organised by Tom Peter, who Geoff says is always there to help. “Tom visits us regularly when we use the TopChanger and provides excellent service. We can always count on a quick response if we have any problems, even though the machine itself is very reliable.”
Labour-saving solution
“The TopChanger has made golf course maintenance more efficient, with fewer people and less time pressure. With just a few people we can do 20 greens in a couple of days. It really is a labour-saving solution”, says Geoff.
Strong relationship
For Abridge Golf Club, the partnership with VGR is a valuable one. For course maintenance, but also for building a strong relationship. “I think that is just as important”, concludes Geoff. We have even given demonstrations to visitors from China who were interested in the machine. This cooperation strengthens our relationship from both sides.”
