Drainage pipes have been installed under some fields to ensure proper drainage throughout the year. Some surfaces are naturally permeable to water.
These drains are installed every four metres at a depth of approximately sixty centimetres. The drains are filled with drainage gravel and a drainage pipe is laid underneath. These pipes facilitate the removal of rainwater and keep the pitches playable during heavy rainfall.
Rinsing & cleaning
After a few years, fine particles build up in the pipes and cause reduced flow. Periodically, the drainage pipes need to be flushed and cleaned. The best time to do this is in the autumn when the fields are wet and the capillary action in the drains is at its best.
